JV - VARSITY TRACK GUIDELINES
2011 SEASON
   
ORDER OF EVENTS RUNNING EVENTS

4th 110 meter high hurdles (Varsity Boys only)
5th 100 meter dash
6th 50 meter dash (J.V. only) - developmental race; will not be scored or count toward team or individual point totals.
7th 4 x 200 meter relay 
8th 400 meter dash
9th 300 meter hurdles
10th 200 meter dash
11th 1600 meter run
12th 4 x 400 meter relay

All events are for Boys and Girls

Each participant may compete in up to five (5) events.

The options are as follows:

1.) 3 Running Events & 2 Field Events
2.) 2 Running Events & 3 Field Events
3.) 4 Running Events (one must be a relay) & 1 Field Event

EVENT LIMITATIONS

1.) In JV, athletes may NOT COMPETE in both the 50 and 100 yard dashes.

PARTICIPATION
NON-DESIGNATED PARTICIPANTS
  1. In the first two (2) Junior Varsity meets, teams will be permitted to have (3) non-designated entries in the 50 meter only
  2. The non-designated participant (s) can not score points for team
  3. Non-designated INDIVIDUAL participation is NOT allowed in the Varsity meets,
    HOWEVER; each team will be allowed one ND relay team per relay event.
  4. For City Meets, there will be no ND participation allowed.
  5. JV ATHLETES ON VARSITY ROSTER
    For a JV athlete to be included on a VARSITY roster, that athlete must have consistently won their event(s) or placed high enough in JV meets to compete at the Varsity level. Any coach who wishes to enter a JV athlete in Varsity meets must get permission from the DPL office.
SCRATCH MEETINGS
REGULAR SEASON MEETS
  1. There will be a mandatory SCRATCH MEETING one hour before the meet begins. The head coach will be given a copy of the OFFICIAL HEAT SHEET.

  2. Individual Events are SCRATCHED ONLY. Coaches may change relay participants within participant event limit. These changes may be made at Scratch Meeting or through submission of relay card on the field prior to the event.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR CITY MEETS
JUNIOR VARSITY
  1. Each participant who wishes to enter the Junior Varsity City Meet must have been entered in one regular season meet and participated in at least one event at a regular season meet.
  2. Each JV athlete must have earned a qualifying time/distance for each event entered in the City Meet, showing that they COMPETED (were not just entered) in that event in at least 1 preliminary meet.
VARSITY
  1. Each participant who wishes to enter the Varsity City Meet must have been entered in two regular season meets and earned a qualifying time for each event entered.
  2. Any Junior Varsity participant may move up and participate in the Varsity City meet if they have been entered in one regular season Varsity meet and participated in at least one event at a regular season Varsity meet.
  3. Junior Varsity participants may use seed times earned from either Junior Varsity or Varsity Meets.
JUNIOR VARSITY/ VARSITY EXCEPTIONS
  1. For field events entries will be limited to the top 25 qualifiers in each event.
  2. The minimum event participation requirements listed above may be reduced at the discretion of the DPL Athletic Director.

    Reasons for considering reduction include, but are not limited to, inclement weather which forces cancellation of part or all the meet and church/ school mandated conflicting functions.

RULE BOOK
The National Federation of State High School Association rule book will govern all events.

Exceptions to the above rule book are the following:

  1. Discus - 1 Kilogram

  2. Shot-Put - 4 Kilograms

  3. Hurdles J.V. and Var. Girls - 100 meters & 300 meters - 30"
        J.V. Boys - 100 meters & 300 meters - 30"
        Varsity Boys - 110 meters (high) - 33"
        Varsity Boys - 300 meters - 30"

  4. Maximum number of events an individual can enter - 5

  5. Relay points count as double (as written in section 2)

SAFETY
Please remember we are guests at at the host High Schools. Please use all necessary precautions to insure the safety of the students and the spectators. It is every adult's responsibility to demand that all students behave and follow the safety rules.
SAFETY RULES
  1. All children who are not participating in the track meet must be accompanied
    by an adult. They must remain in the bleachers or behind the fence.

  2. These children must be monitored by adults to prevent the following:
    1. Running around the campus/athletic facility.
    2. Playing catch with footballs, baseballs and/or softballs.
    3. Running up and down the bleachers.

  3. Athletes should act and behave in a Christian and sportsmanlike manner toward fellow competitors, coaches and officials.

  4. Coaches and athletes will respect and take care of the equipment and facilities we are using.

  5. Each school team is responsible for CLEANING UP their area after each track meet (including trash, plastic bottles, and lunch bags).

REGULAR MEETS 
  1. 1st through 6th place ribbons will be awarded for each event. 
 
CITY MEETS  
1st Place Gold Medal
2nd Place Silver Medal
3rd Place Bronze Medal
4th Place Ribbon
5th Place Ribbon
6th Place Ribbon
  1. In the city meet, ties will result in split points; e.g. If we have a 3rd place 
    tie, the 3rd and 4th place points (6 & 4) will be added together (10) and the 
    total will be divided by two, giving 5 points to each competitor. Two 
    bronze medals will be awarded and no 4th place ribbon will be awarded.

  2. At each City Meet, an athlete of the year will be awarded to the male and female athlete who accumulates the most individual points throughout the season.

  3. At each City Meet. a male and female MVP will be awarded to the athletes who accumulate the most points during that particular city meet.
