MUSTANGS BOUNCE BACK STRONG AFTER DOWN YEAR
The M.I.S. Mustangs opened the 2003 season much like they ended the 1999, 2000, 2001 seasons…with a resounding victory. The Mustangs had won 3 straight DPL titles from 1999-2001, but fell on hard times last season, failing to make the playoffs. However, Coach Andy Mueller is back at the helm and steering the 2003 edition. The Mustangs downed a strong St Monica team 14-5 at Josey Ranch on Sunday. Elsewhere in Varsity D1 play, St Paul christened Mark Twain Field with a solid 11-7 defeat of the St Patrick Panthers, St Rita played the tough guest with a 20-0 shellacking of the Bishop Dunne Falcons, and STA downed their east side rivals, the SPX Tigers 15-4 to round out the schedule.
In 6th grade boys action, last year's 5th grade finalists M.I.S. and St Elizabeth both opened with victories. MIS downed St Monica 11-8 while the Saints handled the St Paul Packers 15-7. St Bernard downed SPX 11-3 and The Highlands won a good pitcher's duel 4-2 over St Rita. Look for this division to be extremely balanced all season long. |
