Varsity:
St Pius X Tigers defense leads the way
The SPX Tigers won the battle of field position in the first half, eventually punching in a late second quarter TD to take an 8-0 halftime lead. Both SPX and CKS battled hard throughout the first 17 minutes trading punts several times, with most of the action taking place on CKS end of the field. The second half of the game resembled the first games of the night....with the halftime leader methodically extending their lead as
they marched to victory. The SPX defense was too quick for the vaunted CKS running attack. A defense which looked left for dead a week earlier against St Monica roared back to life in its biggest game of the year to defeat CKS by a final score of 20-0. The game featured two of the perennial powers in the DPL who have been commonplace on the Catholic Bowl docket over recent years. SPX inherits the trophy from the
2001 winner St Paul.

Varsity Division 1:
Bearcats complete magical undefeated season
The St Monica Bearcats used a methodical offensive first quarter TD drive to seize the lead, and they never looked back in their title game against MIS. The Bearcats converted several 4th down conversions along the way to their first score. After a failed conversion, the score was 6-0. It remained that way through a tight defensive struggle for the remainder of the first half. However, the second half was all St Monica as they posted two more TD's en route to the 20-0 victory. The Bearcats finish the year 11-0, having won numerous close games along the way. While many felt the Bearcats were prime for a loss, given their close calls, the Mustangs just could not generate enough offense to mount a serious threat. St Monica inherits the JV D1 DPL trophy which was won last year by St Patrick.

Varsity Division 2:
The Highlands captures first DPL crown
The Highlands Blazers capped a remarkable second half of the season by defeating St Rita 32-13 in the JV Division II Catholic Bowl. The Blazers won four straight games to close the season with a 5-5 record and a big Gold Trophy for the school case. The game resembled the Blazers season....a sluggish start followed by a dominating finish. The Spartans held an early 13-8 lead using their patented hook and lateral to perfection. A late TD and conversion left the Blazers with a 16-13 lead at the conclusion of an extremely entertaining first half. The second half saw the Blazers punch it in twice more...each time with a successful PAT kick. Noted for their soccer, The Highlands experience much less trouble in the kicking game than many Varsity teams. The Blazers inherit the DPL trophy from Prince of Peace, champions in 2001.
