GONZALES SPINS ONE-HITTER;
COGHLAN SHUTS DOWN PACKERS & BLAZERS
Erica Gonzales threw a one-hitter to help lead Collins Catholic past St Bernard in the season opener in Girls' Division 1 Softball action. Only a line single by Maggie Saucedo prevented the perfect game. Elsewhere in Varsity D1, Mikaela Coghlan picked up two wins on the mound for the Saints of St Elizabeth as they downed St Paul
and The Highlands by respective scores of 15-1 and 17-2. Also, St Patrick opened its' title defense with a solid 11-5 victory over the St Paul Packers at Huffhines Field in Richardson. Victoria Lawrence picked up the win for the Panthers with fine relief work from Kimberly Johnson.
In Junior Varsity play, St Patrick defeated St Elizabeth 11-0, with their pitchers recording 16 K's in the victory. Gabrielle Dizon and Gretchen Gerken combined for the shutout. Elsewhere, title contender MIS opened on a high note by outracing St Monica 14-5. Libby Verret got the mound win with strong hitting support from her teammates. |
